Ruby

January 27, 2008 — September 28, 2020

Loyal · Stubborn · Energetic · Protective · Wise

Ruby entered the world on January 27, 2008, and from the moment she joined her family through breeder Angela Sellers—thanks to Laura Plumley's introduction—she made it clear that she was destined to be an unforgettable companion. As their first German Shepherd, Ruby embodied everything the breed represented: fierce loyalty, protective instincts, and an energy that could light up any room. Her stubborn streak was legendary, matched only by her obsession with balls and her discerning taste in canine friends—she had eyes only for fellow German Shepherds during training sessions. Ruby's exuberance knew no bounds, and she had a particular talent for launching herself directly into her loved ones' faces when they dared to get down to her level, delivering surprise nose-bumps with the enthusiasm of a dog who believed personal space was merely a suggestion.

Ruby's zest for life revealed itself in countless ways, from her fascination with garden tools—rakes and shovels were her specialty—to her eager assistance in any hole-digging project. She was a natural adventurer who excelled on trail rides and, in her younger years, delighted in chasing deer with the determination of a dog half her age. Despite her rambunctious nature, Ruby's intelligence and underlying wisdom shone through when she passed the K9 Good Citizen test, proving that beneath all that spirited energy beat the heart of a well-trained companion. Her protective nature and unwavering devotion made her not just a pet, but a true family guardian who brought immeasurable joy to everyone she met.

When Ruby peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge on September 28, 2020, she left behind a family whose hearts were forever changed by twelve years of unconditional love. They miss everything about her—the way she greeted them with unbridled enthusiasm, her unique voice and the sounds that were distinctly hers, the peaceful moments watching her sleep, and the countless hours of play that filled their home with laughter. Her presence was a constant source of comfort, and her personality had woven itself into the very fabric of their daily lives. Though Ruby is gone, her family honors her memory through donations to Hemangiosarcoma Research at the AKC Canine Health Foundation, ensuring that her legacy continues in the fight against the disease that took her from them too soon.
